This weekend I went to San Diego to spend some quality time with my Dad and see the SDSU Aztec Men's Basketball play their last home game of the season.
On Saturday morning my Dad and I did a 4-mile hike on the mountain behind his house. About 1/2 mile into the hike I was chatting away, not paying attention, which all I sudden I looked down at the trail and saw this guy a couple of feet in front of me:
(not an actual photo of the snake I saw, photo is from here)
I quickly realized it was a 4 ft. long rattlesnake laying completely across the trail and I was about to step on him!
I let out a blood-curdling scream and bolted down the trail away from snake. Well I think my scream scared the snake as much as he scared me because he quickly slithered off the trail and into the bushes.
My heart was pounding out of my chest (I took my pulse and it was 190 bpm) but I finished the hike, making my Dad lead the way from then on out of course. :)
Welcome to springtime in east county San Diego!
Saturday night I joined my Dad in his season ticket seats to watch the San Diego State Men's Basketball Team win their final home game and become co-champions of the Mountain West Conference!
It was so much fun to be in a sold-out arena cheering on Aztecs! (I didn't go to SDSU but I grew up rooting for the Aztecs, so I'm still a big fan). After the game we all rushed the court. Crazy fun!
SDSU is now ranked 9th and is in a good position to make it pretty far in March Madness! Aztecs Fight!

I was at Cowles on Thursday with my dogs and as I was going up someone told me there was a rattlesnake in the bushes! I kept my dogs right next to me the whole time and practically ran up the moutain (as best I could haha)! Scared me to death because I thought I was going to see it.
I would have screamed too!!!!! I am so scared of snakes :-(
My alma mater :)
Yikes! Glad you scared the snake away :) And the game looks like fun! Good father/daughter bonding!
Oh snakes scare me. Found a baby garden snake on patio and a copper head couple yrs ago. Thank goodness, I turned on patio light before my dog went outside. friend and I screamed and I ran to neighbors...her killed them both.
My pulse is racing just seeing the picture of the snake, I can't imagine almost stepping on it! Yikes! Yay for quality father/daughter time. It looks like you guys had a great day!
Holy heck!!! I would have been beyond terrified to see a rattlesnake that close up!!! YIKES!!
Your love of SDSU basketball is similar to mine for Syracuse - I didn't go there but grew up watching them / cheering for them - and I am so proud of them when they do well! Can't wait for March Madness!!!

OH.MY.GOSH. I cannot believe that snake was so close to you!! I am so, so glad y'all didn't get bit!
Oh my goodness! I would have completely freaked out! Snakes terrify me! I'm glad you were ok though!
I still can't believe about the snake!! I keep forgetting to tweet you back (I'm sorry!), I don't remember seeing any big snakes when we hiked in AZ, lots of little lizards though ;). That's so fun that you and your Dad got to go to the basketball game too! What a fun weekend! minus the scary snake sighting and almost stepping on incident :)
