Checking In

I remember back in High School after I got my driver's license, it was important to my Mom that I "check in".

Such as, "hi Mom, I'm going to so-and-so's house for dinner" or "I'm going to go over to the mall after tennis practice, so I'll be home late."

That way she knew I wasn't dead when I wasn't home at 5 PM and also could plan out family dinners, family time, etc.

Then after high school graduation for the next seven years of my life I didn't check in with anyone (unless I made explicit plans to hang out with them). I worked late, ate when I wanted to, and ran errands whenever.

Flash forward a year later, I just called the Mr. to let him know I was grabbing dinner with a friend after work and would be home around 8:30 PM.

And then it hit me, I've started "checking in" again. This time so my husband won't think I'm dead if I'm not home by 7:00 PM and so he can plan his dinner, gym time, etc.

It's funny how life comes full circle, isn't it?

Do naturally "check in" or do your family and friends have to remind you?

I check in with my dad everyday. He's getting elderly and I like to make sure he's ok, so I call him on my way home from work.
I check in with my hubby just like you do. He finds it odd since he doesn't do it (he's never done it). He assumes I know he's coming home sometime. It drives me nuts and I'm trying to stress to him the importance to me of the check in.

I felt resentful about checking in with my guy at first. I thought he was being controlling, etc. Then I realized that he was actually worried, and it was a testament to how he felt about me. Viewed that way, it seems such a small thing to call him and let him know where I am.

I check in with multiple people...my mom, husband, and BFF...LOL

But seriously, I'm 33, almost 34..my mom stalks/calls me about 7-10 times a day. It's 12:30 and I've had 5 calls already.

Btw, the last comment was from me. So much for using OpenID to log in with my typepad profile!

I check in obsessively!! I just hate to have anyone worry because I wasn't paying attention to the time.

I check in a reasonable amount, but you are so right! It totally DOES come full circle!!!

I guess I check in with lots of people. I have lots of friends I email throughout the day, I email with my mom during the work day, and always make sure to check in with the husband when my plans change. It is good to have people to check in with :)

I check in, If not who knows what has happened to me. I check in and I expect the same respect from my hubby.
I even call my mom every day to every other day. Just to say hi. If I don't call her and my dad they might call me after 3 days or so just to see how I'm doing and what I've been up to. I know it sounds dorky but I do.

And now I use your blog to "check in"! Love the Pose post as well as the Halloween one. Guess it's been awhile since I checked in! Love you, mom

Cute comment from your mom. = )

I check in with David any time I am running late. Living in such a big city makes me be cautious about always letting him know where I am.

We are always communicating to one another what is going on and if anything changes or comes up we let one another know. It just comes natural.

I check in with M but we have always done that from the beginning. We are in constant communication. I'd like to check in less with my mother, ha! ;)

I definitely check in all the time. And I remind others to as well. I'm obsessive. it's weird.

I always check in and I expect my family to check in with me. It keeps everyone wondering where is so and so. Also if they run late for some reason I expect a call, especially with the kids. If they dont call I worry about them. To many crazies out there.
