Cooking with Blogs - Tequila Chicken & Cake Pops

One great thing about blogging is finding all kinds of new recipes that bloggers have invented or tried.

As you know, I'm not a huge cook, but a couple of recipes have been getting some buzz lately, so this weekend I decided to try them out.

The first was Pioneer Woman's Tequila Lime Chicken. What really convinced me to give this one a shot was Rachel cooking it and raving about it.

Here's the evolution of my cooking of the PW Tequila Lime Chicken (PW has better pics than me!)

The Mr. and I marinated it, grilled it, baked it, and ate it! I also made Pioneer Woman's pico de gallo, which really made the dish extra delicious!

The Tequila Lime Chick was delicious and easy to make, even for a non-experienced cook like me. I highly recommend it!

The second recipe was Bakerella's Cake Pops. I was inspired by Beach Bum & Baby to try it because her pops look amazing!

I had less success with the Cake Pops than the chicken, but in the end they turned out OK.

Here's the evolution of the Cake Pops.

Notice how the whole "chocolate dipping" part is missing from these pictures? That's because that part was a giant disaster. I had a hard time getting chocolate consistency right, I kept losing cake pops in the chocolate during the dipping process, finished cake pops would fall apart, I spilled chocolate everyone. Ugh.

But in the end, I did get some good cake pops! Here they are in a flower pot for a small dinner party that I brought them too.

Was it worth the $27 and 5 hours I spent on this? Ummmm... maybe. I think next time I might just purchase my desserts and save time and money. :)

What recipes are you trying lately?

Yum, I need to try that chicken! I've been wanting to try cake balls too but last time I tried an "easy" Bakerella recipe it was just like you said.. $30 and an entire night later, I had a few treats!

Both of those look heavenly!! I've been on a real chicken kick too so I'm definitely going to have to try it! Maybe the cake pops just take a couple of times to get perfect..they look great!

Those cake pops look good. It's been so hot here even with AC that I haven't been cooking much. I'm ready for Fall so I can start again.

I've made cakepops a few times and I absolutely LOVE them! So does everyone who I give some to. Yours look great to me!

YUMMMMM! I am wishing we had leftovers of the chicken....I would be thrilled to eat it again!

I've never made cakepops, mainly because I've read from bloggers how looooong it takes. They look delicious, but I like quick and easy!

Yep! PW's chicken is A-MAZING! I've made it several times and it's just so yummy!!

I'm really in to cooking all of the sudden, so love finding new recipes as well. If they're a success, I'll post on my blog. If not, I just try to forget about 'em. LOL

I felt he same way about the cake pops! I had the hardest time dipping them in chocolate! Plus I'm so impatient, so waiting for the cake balls to be cold enough to dip, then waiting again for the chocolate to dry, then wrapping them up...it ended up being too much for me!

I've been dying to try to PW's tequila lime chicken!! I want to try Bakerella's cake balls too, but am a little overwhelmed, baking just isn't my thing!

Love PW's tequila lime chicken! I've started making it in huge batches so we have leftovers. They are great for nachos, tacos, you name it!

I'm pretty impressed by your cake balls! I attempted red velvet ones and failed before I even made it to the chocolate dipping stage!

Yum! That chicken sounds delicious!! And those cake pops are adorable, not sure I could pull them off, but I may have to give it a try!

I didn't see the recipe, but freezing stuff before dipping works like a charm...I make a lot of truffles and dipped brownies, etc., and getting everything ready like an assembly line and freezing the cake/brownie/truffle work wonders (and I am a total klutz!). I guest blogged my dipped marshmallows here: http://causeychitchat.blogspot.com/2010/02/guest-blog-from-happiest-belly-on-block.html.
Very cute pics, by the way :)

I've been seeing those cake pops everywhere and really want to try them sometime. Sorry to hear they didn't turn out as easy as you were hoping, but they still look really tasty!

I tried the cake pops and didn't have any luck either! Oh well. At least they still taste good even if they don't look it!
