For those who have not seen the movie, the plot revolves around corporate downsizer and his travels. The film follows his isolated life on the road, his philosophies, and the people that he meets along the way. According to the director, "The movie is about the examination of a philosophy. What if you decided to live hub to hub, with nothing, with nobody?"
And while I clearly don't believe in life free of relationships, homes, people and things, there are many parts of the movie that remind me of my life working at "Large Consulting Firm" and being on the road. For example:
- The priority check-in at hotels and airports.
- The cheerful "Welcome back Mrs. Lastname" greetings I get at Sheratons when they see that I'm a platinum member.
- The airline and hotel loyalty programs and how I'll do almost anything to earn more rewards points or miles.
- How the main character and I choose our security lines at airports (look for business men, avoid families and the elderly. Sorry!)

I can't imagine traveling so frequently for work. But I do love me airline status! Husby and I only travel on one airlines for that reason alone. We never have to wait in lines and almost always get upgrades to first class. LOVE it.

I don't know if I will ever watch the movie again... I thought it was pretty good but overall sort of depressing. I would never want to spend my life traveling. I hate being in a hotel for more than three nights (unless I am somewhere on vacation) and flying freaks me out (unless I am in first class and that happens once every blue moon). I also thought that the girl from Departed looked TERRIBLE in Up in the Air. What was that all about? The girl from Twilight was really good though and I am glad to see her in more films.
Did you like the movie?
I never saw the movie but I think it sounds good.
I like that your a jet setter. That's neat. I've never been a big traveler, but I wish I could travel more.
I liked the movie! I travel often as well so it sort of felt real for me, but it also reminded me why I'm so glad my better half travels with me!
I still haven't seen this movie! I really need to check it out.
I loved that movie when I saw it, although I can't imagine living that far across the country. I don't mind flying. It's a good think considering that I have a take several flights just to get back home. But I couldn't imagine doing it on a somewhat weekly basis.
And out of curiosity (not sure if its worth a whole post or not) but what do you wear when you fly? I tend to wear the most comfortable thing possible. But I have in my mind visions of the business traveler wearing suits and nice clothes on flights. So which is it for you?
I need to become hip to the flying game! :)
When D and I saw this movie, I totally thought of you!
