Falling in Love with Fall

Even though the first day of Fall is officially September 22, I've always felt that the day after Labor Day marks the end of summer and the start of Fall.

When I was young I loved summer so much that Labor Day was a day of mourning for me. I'd mope around the house and sometimes even cry over the loss of Summer.

Now that I'm "an adult" working for "the man" in an air conditioned office every day, and I don't go back to school, seasons matter less to me. And since I live in a Southern California beach city where the weather rarely drops below 60 all year, and the palm tree leaves don't turn to shades gold and brown, the concept of Seasons is sometimes irrelevant. But nevertheless, in recent years Fall has grown on me.

So since "Fall" is right around the corner I've been thinking of the reasons that I've fallen in love with Fall.

1. College Football! Specifically, my Alma Mater, the USC Trojans!
I love the excitement around college football in general. But there is almost nothing I love more than tailgating on the USC campus with my alumni buddies and watching the Trojans demolish a team in the Colosseum.

PS- Can you believe that a true Freshman, Matt Barkley will be starting at quarterback on Saturday? It's the first time ever in USC history a true Freshman has started at QB.

2. Holidays
I've always loved Halloween. And now I love Thanksgiving because it is always such a fun and special time with the Mr's family in Oregon (where they actually have seasons). Plus my MIL is a great cook and does a lot of fun dishes with the leftovers too.

3. New Fall TV Shows
I don't watch a TON of TV, but I am excited for new episodes of three of my favorite shows (my other favorite show, LOST, will not back on until January)

The Office premires on September 17.

How I Met Your Mother premires on September 21.

Grey's Anatomy premires on September 24 (thank goodness for DVR!)

What parts of Fall do you enjoy? Or do you still hate Fall like I used to? What are you looking forward to in Fall?

I'm just like you...I LOVE college football in the fall! I would love to see a Trojans-Crimson Tide bowl matchup this year!

I also LOVE when the leaves change here in Alabama. This year we plan on going camping in north Alabama when the leaves are turning, it should be gorgeous!

And like you, I also love Grey's and The Office. I'm also into Private Practice and Gossip Girl and plan on checking out Community...I LOVE Joel McHale & The Soup!

I like that fall gives me more of a schedule... it's sort of based around TV watching and who Bama is playing each Saturday, haha!

I LOVE fall. It's my hands down favorite season, even though I currently live in South Florida, where the seasons are equally irrelevant, like you. But the onset of the holidays are my favorite part!!

This will actually be my first "real" fall! Living in the SF bay area my whole life where seasons barely change has made this coming fall kind of exciting! Though I am NOT looking forward to all the snow that winter will bring after!

September makes me happy because of the new shows (of which I watch a ton).

It doesn't feel like Fall until October, here in Florida. However, I still love Fall.

You are too cute! I wrote an entire post last week on how I can't let go of summer! It's so tough, but like you, I'm not only in SoCal, but also indoors all day, so you make some very good points! I am looking forward to Halloween! It's on a Saturday this year!

I am seriously obsessed with football. I love all college football, and I love my Saints. I get so depressed when the season is over in January/February!

I just found your blog - super cute! As a fellow 20 something SoCal beach city newlywed, I can totally appreciate your blog too.

So funny, I just wrote (a slightly more scathing) post today about why I can't wait for fall to get here too!

It is so funny you say that now you find that working means that the transition between summer and fall feels different because my husband and I were just saying the same thing! We, too are looking forward to football, and I am personally looking forward to the fall clothes at Ann Taylor Loft.

I am totally dreading fall!! Probably because I live in Kansas and fall means winter is right around the corner. Freezing, wet, miserable winter...

Oh, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Fall! I can't wait for it to come here. It does get colder than 60 here in TX, but it takes a while to get down there. I love Fall for all of the same reasons, and pretty much everything else about fall :)

Ahhhh! You're a Trojan? Was I meant to find your blog? I'm a "T-shirt Trojan" - my brother is an SC grad and since I went to Baylor, I bandwagon-ed onto SC football when he was a freshman 2003, since my own football team only wins one conference game a year. So, I'm all about SC. I loved visiting him and going to games. Fight on!

I'm really excited to see Barkley play. That's pretty incredible. But I trust Pete Carroll.

Happy Labor Day weekend! I hope Kelly's Korner gets the show us your life post up before I head out of town :-)
