How did I get here?

First a bit of background...

Age 12: I start complaining to my friends that I'm "fat." (I'm already 5'8" at this point)

High School: I varsity letter in two sports (tennis and basketball). I'm never "thin" in the tradition sense but very fit and muscular.

College and the years after: I put on over 20 pounds.

The year before our wedding: I lose 25 pounds reaching my lowest weight since middle school and finally reaching my "happy weight".

And today...

I've gained 12 pounds since our wedding on 8/16/08. Ugh.

It was this recent picture of me that really brought the gain to my attention.

I compared it to a similar picture taken at my bachelorette party in 2008.

So I admit that the 2008 picture angle is better and the outfit is more flattering. But the 12 pounds is definitely noticeable in my legs, tum, and face. And I can feel the gain in way my pants fit.

Now I need to lose weight. Again.

I'm embarrassed to be back here.

I keep asking myself, "how did I get here?!"

But I know the answer... I got here by working out less and not tracking how much I eat/drink.

I have to lose the 12 pounds before 12 becomes 20 again.

So what's the plan?

The plan is start tracking how much I eat and drink using Weight Watchers points again.

I'm also jumping back on the workout train by:
- Hitting the gym 2 times a week
- Doing yoga 1 time a week
- Walking or hiking 1 time a week
- And for something new, swimming 1 time a week

My goal is to lose 10 pounds.

I'm posting this here to a) keep it real with you all and b) create some motivation and accountability for myself

I hope that in 6-10 weeks I can post a success story here!

Does anyone have any other tips for me?

you look great girl, but I understand the "happy" weight.I put on 20 my sophomore year of college and it snuck up on me so fast and once I lost that weight I never wanted to go back.

I will battle the bulge with you. Although I think you look great, I understand how it feels when you get away from the "happy weight". Good luck! keep us updated. Perhaps you'll help keep me motivated!

I'm in that camp too and also trying to be more regimented with working out and eating. We can do it!

I am more than confident that you will be back there in no time with WW. I've been doing it for about 3 months and have lost 16lbs without really "trying". Just track, track, track and you'll get there in no time!

You still look great girl! I am right there with you though.. slowly gained weight over a certain amount of time. Instead of the freshmen 15, I think I put on the fresmen 25! I've been working out everyday and have only missed a couple days over the course of 2 1/2 weeks! It's become such a habit now and I almost feel weird if I don't go! :) I've also lost 6 1/2 pounds so that's great motivation! :) Need to look my best on my wedding day!

Looking forward to hearing about your progress, workouts, meal plans, etc. Thanks for the motivation! :)

I'm totally with you right now...I'm going to Maui in September and I've been planning to take off some weight all summer, but have I? No. Harumph.

I'm all about the WW thing and just have to be more disciplined. Have you been over to DWLZ? She has points for almost every restaurant you could want to visit!!!

Good luck to you!

I think you look great in both pictures, but I can understand the "want" to get back down.

You can do it!

I've lost about 10 this summer and have about 40-50 more to go until my "happy" weight, lol.

I think you look fabulous, but I understand you wanting to get back to your happy weight. Your fitness plan and following weight watchers will definitely help reaching your goal.I'm currently doing Weight Watchers andd I love the program.

You still look great! We are always our own worst critic.. My mom lost 56 lbs on Weight Watchers in 9 months! I put on 20 lbs my senior year of high school.. I feel though that about 10 of the 20 pounds I put on were needed though. I was tiny! I'd love to lose 10 pounds now though. Weight Watchers seems to be a good strategy along with working out! Good luck! The mind set is half the battle!!

I'm feeling the same way! I got married about 6 months ago and just started to try to get back down to the wedding weight. My office has decided to do a Biggest Loser competition, which is super helpful. If you need a buddy, let me know! Check out my blog at http://myhappilyeveraftertheend.blogspot.com too!

I feel your pain! I've been hitting the gym too. I used to do WW but I've found that dailyplate.com is working a lot more for me. Good luck!

You look great but I understand completely! I am going thru something similar myself! I have found that carrying lil "healthy" snacks with me always helps alot. I also found drinking alot of water and eating slower helps me know when I am actually full. I think making healthier choices is the best advice. Make changes you can keep with. I started yesterday and my goal is 60 days to a slimmer stomach! hahah Good Luck and know Im here if you need support, encouragement or motivation!

I've also gained 20 pounds since high school/college. I want to lose 10-15 pounds.

You should try Tabitha's Weigh in Wednesdays. probablytabitha.com

i like following her progress and also you should check out "in it to gym it."
good luck!

I think you look great! But it sounds like if you are looking to lose ten pounds, that is a great way to do it! Also, drink lots of water. They say a lot of times people confuse being hungry with being thirsty :) Good luck!

Ugh...I can totally relate. I've put on 10 lbs since we got married last year and I just hate it.

You can do it! Good luck!

I soooooo know what you're talking about. I've gained about 14 since July 2008, when we got married. I lost about 10 last fall, but it's all back now. I'd really love to go back to my happy weight. It just seems to get harder the older I get.

Good for you. Do it now before, like you said, 12 becomes 20. In the last five months, I lost 50 (hubby lost 25) and my findingthymetocook blog turned into healthy450.com with new recipes which will be delicious but low calorie!! I'll be focusing on good food that's good for you. . . and simple to prepare. Good luck!!!

I honestly think you look gorgeous now but I understand what you're saying... the pounds just creep on as soon as I stop paying attention.

Ugh, hate it.

Good luck! You can do it!

I think you look great! The only things that have ever worked for me has been counting calories and working out. Good luck!

I too think you look great - but I know how it is to feel the gain and want to get back where you were. It's an ongoing struggle for me - I'm about 14 lbs heavier than I was for my wedding. Best of luck!

honestly, you look great..happy and healthy! but you can never go wrong by eating healthy and exercising! Dr. Trebilcock has definitely helped me with the eating part!

Honestly you are so gorgeous you cant even see the 12 pounds on you!

But I show it in my legs and face too, so I get it. A thing that I have found helpful is going to the gym with a buddy. Sometimes we go to a class together. It helps to have a friend!

Hang in there! You can do it!

I totally hear you on a happy weight, but I still only see a beautiful girl. :)

I completely understand what you are talking about with the added weight...I really relate to your journey.

Using WW, I lost 30 lbs for my wedding (a really fast 7 mos ago) and 15 have already crept back...I'm trying really hard not to be a point counter again for WW, but if I don't get the results I want...I'm heading back! In the meantime, I'm running and logging...it's tough!

You can do it...and I have to keep reminding myself, I can too! I'm very new to blogging (1 post to date), and I really enjoy reading yours!

I hear you on this. I just started attending ww meetings again today for the same reason!
