Life plans, Pete, mattresses and other random ramblings...

Happy Monday everyone!

This post is a bit all over the place because I didn't think that any one of these topics warranted a full post, but had some things on my mind...

First of all, I am devastated.

My hero (and major DILF), Pete Carroll, is leaving his head coaching job at USC. It's the end of an era. My era. As a Freshman I watched coach his first game at USC. And now the dynasty is over. You all know I love USC Football, so of course I will still be a fan. I just fear many years of "rebuilding" and will miss Pete terribly.

Second, I am officially old.

Why? Because I am SO excited about a big purchase we made this weekend. We bought a brand new Stearns and Foster mattress! It will be delivered on Wednesday and I can't wait. Shouldn't a 20-something gal be more excited about shoes or purses? Nope, I'm excited about a mattress.

Third, the Mr. and I mapped out a five year life plan last night on the white board in our conference room.

Conclusions we drew... Our condo is a giant albatross. Can't sell it, can't rent it. I'm mad that we thought buying was a good idea. Thinking about the economy makes me bitter in general. At any other time in the past 60 years this condo would have been a great investment. Post-graduate education is costly and time consuming. Is it even worth it? We'll never be able to afford kids. Seriously. And it all relates back to the stupid condo. Dang American dream. (sorry for the pitty party, but it's my blog and and I'll whine if I want to)

Fourth, here is random fact for you.

I am 5 ft. 8 inches tall. I had a reader tell me that she thought I was short because I always look so short in pictures with the Mr. Well, the Mr. is 6 ft. 5 inches tall. So he does make me look like a shrimp. Isn't that funny?

Fifth, I was thinking of getting a netbook for personal travel.

Do you think they are useful? Does anyone have one that they like?

Come visit Pete in Seattle! :) I definitely thought about you guys when the news first broke.

And good luck with the condo. Ugh. My husband and I are in the process of buying a home, and I'm more than a little nervous. The market seems to be doing better, but is it really? Is this a good time to buy? And the saga continues...

Good luck with the condo, it's hard *not* to become a little bitter with the economy in the shape that it's in!

Hubs is 6'5, and I'm...wait for it...a mere 5'2! Pics look HILARIOUS!

Have a fabulous week!

I am sorry about the condo. The economy is not good at all for any. Praying for you. Love your blog!

I totally hear what you're saying about our dumb economy :(

I just got the Toshiba N205 for my birthday in November. It's *tiny* and *light* and (very important) cute!! Ha! I think it was around $400 too.

I really think it's Pete's time. I know that their program is going to be weird the next few years. Seattle is a great change and NFL, big time.

We need a new mattress. Ours is 7 years old. But Cal King's are expensive.

I don't think anything is selling right now. I was 29 when I got pregnant. You have a bit...but a major think we looked for in this house was school district. People don't always think of that when moving.

And 5'8" damn you are TALL.

oh where should I start!
Pete: GILF.. too funny! USC should be interesting next year! I think we will hear some info this week about the football program that will raise eyebrows..
Bed: we got a new one this year too.. its SO NICE! but why are they so expensive?
Condo: ugh! sorry!
Notebook: I need one too!!

I can't believe Pete Carrol is coming to coach the Seahawks. I'll definately be going to more Seahawk games!
Yuck about the condo. I keep toying with the idea of buckling down and buying something but we've had a lot of friends wind up in financial messes because of foreclosures and this horrible economy. If hubby lost his job again we'd be in a pickle if we tried to buy a house. Renting is safer for us now.

Heather (Live.Love.Laugh.) said...

You are tall like me...Im 5'9".

We only use a notebook, Sony Vaio, and love it. We travel with it, and can use it in any room of the house.

I hear ya on being stuck in a mortgage, we have had our place on the market to rent for 4 months with no luck!

I have an Acer netbook. I love it, but I have a big laptop, too. The netbook is great for traveling, or hanging out at Panera. Mine's pink, and I got my mom a pink one for Christmas, too. She also loves it. :)

I will rent your apartment!
How much you asking!?
You look cute next to your hubby :)

Happy Monday!

Right there with you on the five year plan. Had I only been able to see the future I never would have built our house. I do love it, but we are stuck.

I always thought you were a shorty too :) Ha! 6'5''!! Holy cow girl!

I'm sorry you feel stuck in your situation with the condo. We also have housing issues (renting right now...do we buy?? where?? even in this city?? er.) So frustrating to be up in the air at this time in our lives. But God has a plan :) For you and for me!

Oh, and my FIL just got one of those netbooks and they seem super cool and very convenient for traveling. I would LOVE one!

I'm in the same boat with my condo...and I've had it for 7 years. I've seen the market swing up to where I could have made almost $100k and back down to where it is now. And it's okay. You're not alone here and if you commit to sticking it out for a while longer, you can turn it when the market rebounds. Because let's face it...when you live in a beach community, it will always rebound!

i'm also devastated about Pete!

Ugh, I hear you on the condo situation - ours is similar since we bought near the top, unfortunately. Let's hope the economy picks back up soon!

RE netbook: I've been looking into them since my laptop died recently. I'm probably going to go with a small laptop (ASUS makes some pretty cheap ones with great specs) since I'd like to be able to use more powerful programs. But I'm guessing you have a work laptop and this would just be for personal travel - in which case I think it would be fine. They certainly are pretty cheap, and cute!

You are too funny! I am sorry about Pete Carroll, I would cry if Frank Beamer left Tech and we have never had a season like you have in the past years! Your hubs is super tall:) I always thought you were petite as well, So jealous of your mattress! We are getting old-I got excited about a slow cooker (no joke)

Sorry to hear about the condo issues and Pete Carroll. Thats a bummer.
But the good news is that your TALL. I dream of being a tall girl. How nice it must be.

Your mattress looks fabulous by the way. :)

I have a job where I travel for work throughout the day, but need a computer. Just got a Dell 10v and LOVE it for travel. I'd hate for a normal laptop, but it's perfect traveling...

Oh my husband is so bummed about losing the head coach! Wow I always thought you were a tiny thing too, if I was to stand by him I'd really be a shrimp at a whopping 5'3" haha.

Rachel said...

I had no idea you were so tall! We're the same height :)

Sorry about the condo. Sometimes life works out for the best, though, and maybe things won't be as bad as you expect? But if whining is okay too! Sometimes a little pouting makes everything better for me!

Jen said...

haha never knew you were 5'8"! good tidbit.

Anyway I love my Tobisha NB205. I got it for Christmas and it is awesome for being so light and its battery lasts for like 9 hours. The only thing that I dont love is that it comes with windows 7 starter not the full version but im sure you could upgrade if you wanted!

The economy...ugh dont get me started!

And I totally thought you were a little shorty too, I stand (small..I'm 5'4") corrected! :)

the economy makes me sad too, my husband is in the Navy and I feel like we will never even be able to buy a place :( As for the netbook, my dad is in the Navy as well, he lives in Guam and is constantly travelling back to the US and Japan and he has one and loves it! He also has all his music on it so he can have some tunes while in the hotels etc and not have to have his ipod attached to him, hope that helps :)

I just wanted to say hang in there. God works in mysterious ways. I get so discouraged about my hubby's and my 5 year plan not working out & I feel so stuck. I just keep trying to remember that God is in control and he is GOOD.
Love your blog! I'm not sure how I found it, but I really enjoy it!

Amber K. said...

Weird.. I hadn't thought about it until you mentioned it, but I thought you were maybe 5'4" and your husband 6'0".

Jodie said...

A new mattress is no joking matter...and it should definitely be something to get excited over! We recently bought a new one too and were more excited for that than what you do on the mattress! ha! Enjoy it!

Brittany Ann said...

I've considered the netbook too! But I'm worried it will hem me in!

Crazy Shenanigans-JMO said...

Sorry about the condo. Put it on the market and see what happens...you never know...

My friend got a netbook for Christmas and that's all he talks about now! he's in love with it!

I feel your pain on the height difference. I'm 5'4" and my husband is 6'4". I think it's kind of fun to look so tiny in all our pictures though. :)

I also know what you mean about the "5-year plan" being affected by this damn economy...

Pete, well, I wasn't a fan when he was the coach for the NE Patriots but he did some good for USC. Here's hoping he enjoys his new job!

SO exciting about the new mattress!

sorry about the condo issues :( The economy pisses me off!

Not sure if you follow Blue Eyed Bride on Twitter but she mentioned earlier she had a netbook for internet only. you could maybe email her!

you guys will have tall, beautiful kids!

I'm new here and to your blog, but I definitely understand! We have a house that we will probably be stuck with eternally- even when my husband goes to medical school in another state. We'll be living off my teacher's salary (assuming I can find a job) and living SOMEWHERE! Whoever told us this was a good idea owes me some money.

also, I bought a glorious area rug two weeks ago and I've only recently come off the high

Children of the 90s said...

That's tough about the condo, a lot of my friends are going through the same thing. Good luck!

I thought about getting a netbook too, but I ended up just getting a lighter laptop. It's still really portable, but I like that it's a real computer. My friend just got a netbook and adores it, though!

Chic Runner said...

I as well am devastated about Pete. We can commiserate together. Also, congrats on the mattress. We talked about the condo a little last time I saw you and I know it sucks. :(

I have net book but recently it died and I have to call about it and get it fixed, but I did love it when it was working properly. :)

Wow! I had no idea you were 5'8 I also thought you were on the shorter side (totally not in a bad way, ha!) You guys look so cute in your USC stuff in that picture!

Do not feel odd for being excited about the new mattress! I was down right giddy over my new mattress last month. We went with a Stearns and Foster also and we both love it! Good luck!

Oh yeah and Good luck with USC's new coach Lane TIffin...He is a lose cannon...He finds drama easily
