Visting "The City on a Hill"

Last week during my furlough I traveled to Boston for family, fun, and food!

My parents and I went to two great museums.

One day we went to the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA). And in addition to viewing their regular galleries we got to see a stunning limited0-time Chihuly exhibit.

Chihuly is an artist that creates amazing glass art.

Chihuly's work on display at the MFA included several giant chandeliers, a room where the entire ceiling is made up of hundreds of glass sculptures, a "garden" made filled with glass, a boat of glass, and an amazing forest of glass and real trees.

Such amazing stuff!

Another day my Dad and I visited the Institute of Contemporary Art. I can't really say I love super modern contemporary art. I just don't "get it". But it was cool the see the museum and discuss the art.

There are great views from the ICA out onto the Boston Harbor.

We also ate at some amazing restaurants! I highly recommend all of these places....

Carmen in the North End for dinner, Mike's Pastry for dessert, Shabu-Zen in Chinatown for lunch, Legal Seafood by the Aquarium for Dinner, Atlantic Fish Co in the Back Bay for lunch, and The Helmand for Dinner.

My Mom and I at Helmand.

We also did a bunch of shopping and a TON of walking around the city.

The Old City Hall

Long Wharf

All and all, a great trip to "The City on a Hill."

Boston is a blast to visit. When you go back, if you haven't done it yet, visit the JFK Presidential Library. Totally worth checking out.

Looks like fun! I lived in Boston for a short while when I was little (like, 2nd grade I think), so we didn't really get into the art museums. I'd love to go back and really see everything this time!

I love living close to Boston and just visited the MFA on Saturday as well as the JFK Library.

I'm headed back in a few weeks to get back up to the top of the Prudential Tower.

Hi - I'm a new follower (but have been reading your posts for a bit now).
I LOVE Chihuly - there was an amazing chandelier of his at my university & I love just staring up at it in awe!

A woman I work with was talking about that exhibit at the MFA the other day! I've never heard of the artist before, but that glass art looks amazing.

Next time you're in Boston you should try LTK (Legal Test Kitchen) in South Boston. It's part of Legal Seafood but a little more relaxed/fun atmosphere and the food is oh-so-yummy!

I loooove Mike's Pastry and Legal Seafood! Boston is one of my favorite places. I'm glad you had a great time! Sometimes, even though I'm married, it's so nice to just spend time with my parents and go back to just being their kid. :) Great post!

So fun! Boston is great, so cool you get to go there every so often to visit your mom. Your mom is adorable, btw.

I loooove Legal Seafood!!! Is it sad that I just pick up on the food section of this post? Wait, don't answer that.

I heard about the Chihuly exhibit in Boston right now. Dave Chihuly is from Tacoma (where I live) and right now there's a Norman Rockwell exhibit at the Tacoma Art Museum. I recently learned Rockwell spent most of his life in Massachusetts. I found this "artists trading-places" amusing!

What a fun trip!! I would love to visit Boston. My inlaws are planning a trip there with some college friends of theirs right now and I am so jealous--I keep telling them that I am coming with them. They seem...not amused...
