To Trash or Not to Trash?

I have a few teeny tiny regrets from our wedding... one of them is that I didn't get enough pictures of me in my wedding dress. In fact, I have almost zero pictures with me showing off my dress.

I know it sounds superficial, but I really wish I had some fun bridal portraits. I emailed my photographer about this a few months ago and she agreed that we didn't get many pictures of me in my dress and offered to do a "Trash the Dress" session for me for free.

So I have to ask, should I do a "Trash the Dress"?

Pros:
- I get some great pictures of me in my dress... really cool, artistic stuff
- It would be really fun to do
- Why not immortalize being young and happy?
- It's free!

Cons:
- I'd have to get my dress re-cleaned (I would only get my dress dirty/wet and not actually destroy it)
- I've been married 6 months, does it seem lame to get back into my wedding dress?
- It's a bit self-indulgent

Here is one of my only pictures of just me showing off my dress (one of the "industrial" shots I did before the wedding):

So be honest with me, should I do a "Trash the Dress" photography session or not?

I'm dying to do a TTD session. I'd love some cool artsy photos of myself in my dress. It's on my wish list for now.

I think you should ABSOLUTELY do what will leave with you no regrets. I can't do trash teh dress b/c 1. I'm a clean freak. 2. Just in case I got a bad stain on it, I'd freak out. I get anal about things like that, but if you can, then you should do it!

hmmmm I can't decide, but your dress is gorge. You can always do a 'bridal portrait' session. Then you wouldn't have to get it recleaned? That's an option? I dunno I'm not in with all this wedding business! :)

Yes, most definitely! You will end up regretting if you don't "Trash the Dress"! You're gorgeous and your dress is to die for!!! So be a little self indulgent and get to trashing that beautiful gown :) Can't wait to see all of the fun pictures if you decide to go through with it! Plus, it is FREE!!!! Do it and don't look back!!!

I think it be fun to do. And I think it'd make more sense to do in now, instead of waiting. You figure the sooner you do it, the less you'll have changed since the wedding. That's how I would look at it at least.

DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!! I think it sounds awesome (and hello, free!)

o my gosh! yes! do it! i don't have great pictures or my dress anymore! go for it!!

I know it may seem strange to do it now, but what better time? If nothing else, it's an excuse to get yourself all glammed up and in your dress again. Love that picture BTW

absolutely do it especially if you are wishing you had more!

Hey! Thanks for your comment on my blog a while back! Sorry I'm just getting to comment yours! :) I think your dress was absolutely gorgeous!!! If it were me, I'd do it!! Especially since you're not getting it muddy or anything! Those will turn out so beautiful and it will be fun, for sure! Let us know what you decide!!! :)

IF it is free, why not? I'm not sure if I could do it...of course it's been three years since my wedding, so it might be a little weird :)

Hahaha, I just saw the one above me but I have to tell you- I am going on three years of marriage too and still wish I had done that sort of photo session! I only got a few pictures of just me on the actual wedding day and have considered dressing back up, redoing my hair, and doing it all again- even years later! So my advice is do it now so you don't regret it later ;)

I don't think it's lame at all! I think that if you want to do it...and you regret having more pictures...you should definitely do it! It could be a lot of fun.

Your dress is GORGEOUS!!!

I think if you want to do it, go for it! I, personally, am not sure if I could trash something so gorgeous. I might also consider selling it...make a little cash on the side. Anyway, I love your blog! I just found it ;-)

I think you should do it! I did a bridal portrait session a few weeks before the wedding and I am SO glad I did! Plus, it's a great excuse to put on your dress again! :)

I think it would be fun, especially since you aren't going to actually trash it and can get it cleaned later. Plus it is free. I wish I had an excuse to get back into my dress! :)

my vote is that you do it! I would love to wear my dress again!

Your dress looks way too pretty to do it, even if you will get it cleaned! I've heard of brides buying a cheap dress from goodwill for the TTD photo shoots. I think it would be fun!

Liz said...

I say yes, go for it. It's free, fun and you can get your dress cleaned later.

You know you can call it a TTD session but you really don't have to trash it. Just stand in cool places, make sure where you sitting is clean.

Then no worries about having to clean it.

The George Family said...

Do it! I think that having it cleaned again is a small price to pay when you know you are going to get some awesome shots.

I would also suggest you have your husband in a few- in totally dressed down clothes- like jeans and a polo and flip flops- I recently saw ones like those done that were amazing!

I wouldn't worry about having only been married a couple months- do it while you are still young and FIT in your dress :)

Just because it's called a Trash the Dress session doesn't mean you have to actually trash your dress. You could look at it more as a bridal portrait session. I think it would be a great "free" opportunity to have fun in your dress again.

We're actually planning to head out to CO for our 1 year anniversary and get all wedding-day'd up again for more pictures. Teeehee! After dishing out what we do for wedding dresses, why not wear it again & for as many times as possible??? :P

I haven't gotten married yet, but I have already thought about a TTD session. I am getting married on the beach and after the ceremony I am not going to want to run in the water and take pictures with my new husband.... but after the reception is over and done with, I definitely want to take some cool pictures in the sand and water.

I say go for it!

Emily said...

Welll as long as you dont really "trash" the dress...because your dress is absolutely stunning and wow you look amazing in it.. I think you will love the pictures if you take them! I have a friend who did about a year after her wedding and loves her pictures... go for it;)

TexanCouture said...

That sounds really fun! I would go for it, as long as your dress can be cleaned enough to preserve it for you to keep it!

d.a.r. said...

Gorgeous dress!!! Yes, please go take more pictures in it!

Shaina said...

You should absolutely do it! It will be so much fun. I'd love to do something like that...but cannot bear to get my dress dirty like that. I guess I could do it with a new "wedding" dress...but yeah, who am I kidding. It won't happen!

Sassy Engineer said...

I don't think it is self-indulgent (it is free!) I wish I had some fun shots in my dress, and since I'm guessing the dress wasn't free, you might as well get some more use out of it :)

Ker said...

That's such a fun idea - I love the pics of brides sitting/standing in water with the bottom of the dress floating around them - so cool and a good use of the dress, better than it sitting in storage for infinity! :)

Tara Gibson said...

i would so do it.. My sisters and I are going to do it when my little sister gets married!

Anonymous said...

I think it's a great idea! Especially since your photographer was nice enough to do it for free. I'm sure you will get some awesome shots!!!

Seaside Prep said...

what a gorgeous dress! I am voting to do it lady!! We want to see the pics, too! :)

Anonymous said...

I would totally do it. I still somewhat not regret doing our "engagement" photos. Do it now, before it's too late! :)

Random Musings said...

YES YES YES YES YES

I only say this because I have been married for 5 years and mine is still sitting in my closet and I am looking to just give it away... Are you ever going to use it again?

I say do it!!

Unknown said...

Definitely! I've never heard of a Trash the Dress shoot before and now, I totally want one. Because really, are you ever going to wear your dress again? Or, if your like me, it rained on your wedding day so the dress is already a bit ruined...

Sweet Simplicity said...

Your dress is gorgeous! It sounds like its something that you want to do so I say go for it!

Brittany said...

do it! I've seen these pictures and they are always so cute and gorgeous! Better to put the dress on now and enjoy it a little more because in all reality, what else are you going to do with it? You probably won't be putting it on again years from now.

Anonymous said...

i think it'd be super fun! that being said, i probably wouldn't. my dress cost over $500 just to clean so i wouldn't want to pay that again! maybe in 5 years or so

Mrs. Buck said...

You should totally do it! We did a trash the dress session and it was so fun! I just posted about it on my blog too - check it out if you get a chance.

I love your dress! Do you mind telling me who designed it? It's everything I'm looking for. :)

Love your dress so it's hard to imagine doing anything that might ruin it...that said, I love looking at trash the dress pics so I'm really no help!

Alison said...

I was just reading your posts and was wondering if you are by chance selling your dress??? It is a discontinued style that I absolutely looooooove and I'm having a hard time finding sellers online. The most common color is the red, not ivory. Let me know if you get this comment. You can also email me at ali.n.walker@gmail.com Thanks!

Did you trash it? I am planning on doing one and I've been married 6 1/2 years! Maybe for my 10th!
