So You Want To Read My Diary?

A while back I posted that I keep a "scrapbook diary" and a couple of people asked "what is that?"

What I do is when I read a magazine I keep it and then cut out words, phrases, or pictures that I find meaningful and keep them all in a shoe box. I also will keep mementos like ticket stubs or love notes.

Then when I'm going through a stressful time, or a important time, or just a time where I need to get my feelings down on paper I go through the box and pull out any pictures or words that summarize how I'm feeling and past them into a journal page or two.

It's the most calming and cathartic thing I do. It helps me to really visualize my feelings. And it makes a cool keepsake.

For example....

This is the page from when the Mr. FINALLY told me he loved me back in college:

This is the page I made after my baptism:

This is the page I made after we got engaged:

And this is the page I made after our wedding:

Do you do anything in particular to release your emotions? Do you keep a journal? A diary? Scrapbook? Blog? All of the above? None of the above?

You know, I have a friend who does something similar and she said the end product is really interesting. I don't really buy magazines any more though I'm beginning to wish I did. I'd like to try my hand at this. Thanks for sharing!

That is really cute! Love it!

I used to write in a journal, but gave that up for blogging. I do attempt to scrapbook, but I'm not very good, and I'm way behind. I'm still trying to finish my France scrapbook from 2005...

I love it! What a great keepsake!

I keep a quote journal. Anytime I read a quote, hear a song lyric, or someone says something I want to remember, I jot it down and letter write in my quote journal.

I used to do something very similar to this, only I would put the clippings on poster board instead of a journal. I love all the little pieces of this and that come together to make something beautiful. Thanks for sharing :)

NO WAY! I do almost the exact same thing. I always go through my magazines and clip things out. I have a huge box filled with momentos, ticket stubs, programs, magazine clippings and use them in my journal and scrapbook. I guess great minds think alike. :)

I love the idea! It seems like a good way to put memories onto paper, without all of the words of a typical journal. I think that I will start one, thanks for the inspiration!

Great idea. Too bad I stopped having time for scrapbooking more that five years ago when my first daughter was born. Now I have whole magazine pages ripped out and thrown into a box for future reference - not nearly as useful as a scrapbook. *sigh*

BTW - I have a little something for you over at my gardening blog. Stop by for your Award.
